Limiting Load in Concrete Plates with Cracks: a Cell Method (CM)-Based Calculation

چکیده
In this study, the problem of finding the limiting load in infinite plates with internal cracks is extended to the non-linear field. In particular, results concerning concrete plates in bi-axial loading are shown. The analysis is performed in discrete form, by means of the Cell Method. The discrete analysis allows us to identify the crack initiation without using the stress intensity factors. This simplifies the computation in cracked solids of finite dimensions. An example of computation in finite solids, the skew-symmetric four-point bending beam, is provided. INTRODUCTION For finding the minimum load required to propagate a crack (limiting load), the variational principle of the most common crack theories has been used over the past three decades (Parton and Morozov 1978). Criteria for the initiation of crack propagation can be obtained on the basis 1) Ph.D. 2) Full Professor 3) Associate Professor

A Study on Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Plates
In this study, Finite Elements Method was used for the nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete plates under gradually loading conditions beginning from zero load to failure load. Layered Composite Material Model was used for the modeling of reinforced concrete plates. The principles of this approach is given in “layered composites mechanics” that it was successfully applied for the nonlinear ...

In this study, the problem of finding the complete trajectory of propagation in plates with internal straight cracks is extended to the non-linear field. In particular, results concerning concrete plates in bi-axial tensile loading are shown. The concrete constitutive law adopted for this purpose is monotonically non-decreasing, as following according to previous studies of the Authors on monot...
متن کاملCracks Analysis in Zavin Concrete Dam Using Fracture Mechanics Approach
Most of the existing concrete dams are subjected to cracking. These cracks are caused by various factors such as construction practices, curing, loads and volume change of mass concrete which reduce the efficiency, failure or instability of concrete dams. Using fracture mechanics as a new method to estimate stability and durability of concrete dams is recommended in scientific publications in w...
متن کاملDetermination The Stress Intensity Factor in The Un-Central Edge Cracks With The concentrated Load
The stress distribution on the tip of the cracks and the stress intensity factor on them are the main courses in the fracture mechanic. The stress intensity factor of the cracks with the different load exited and the different geometry are listed in the tables of the standard books. In all of them, the cracks are located in the central point of the plates. In the uniform edge loaded case, the c...
متن کاملEffect of Through Stationary Edge and Center Cracks on Static Buckling Strength of Thin Plates under Uniform Axial Compression
Thin plate structures are more widely used in many engineering applications as one of the structural members. Generally, buckling strength of thin shell structures is the ultimate load carrying capacity of these structures. The presence of cracks in a thin shell structure can considerably affect its load carrying capacity. Hence, in this work, static buckling strength of a thin square plate wit...
